Morocco targets three French international hopefuls

Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Moroccan Football Federation, said he was closely monitoring the situation of three young French international hopefuls for the next World Cup: Sofiane Diop (Monaco), Amine Adli (Bayer Leverkusen) and Mohamed-Ali Cho (Angers).

This is a statement that is likely to make many Atlas Lions supporters salivate. This Wednesday, in a Twitter space organized by Soccer212, Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Moroccan Football Federation, assured that three French international hopefuls were in his sights: Sofiane Diop (seven selections, Monaco), Amine Adli (five selections, Bayer Leverkusen) and Mohamed-Ali Cho (three selections, Angers).

“Of course we are working on it, and I repeat the principle: the national team is a right for all Moroccan players, regardless of where they play. So compared to Diop, we had contacts and we continue to have them. Adli, the same. Cho, I myself received his mother here in Rabat, the contact is continuous”, assured the Moroccan leader.

A return of Mazraoui and Ziyech?

Always with the aim of building the best possible team in view of the World Cup in Qatar at the end of the year, Lekjaa also assured that he would ensure that Noussair Mazraoui and Hakim Ziyech return to the national team. The two men, snubbed for many months by the coach, Vahid Valilhodzic, refused a pre-call-up last March.

The Ajax full-back has not worn his team’s jersey since November 2020, while the Chelsea attacking midfielder has not played with the Atlas Lions since June 2021. “There are problems with correct and we will correct them so that Mazraoui and Ziyech can return to the national team. Hakim (Ziyech) and Noussair (Mazraoui) remain Mountakhab players,” said the head of the Moroccan federation.
