LPGA: hard return to earth for Leblanc

Quebec golfer Maude-Aimée Leblanc is quickly back to earth, less than a week after signing her best result in the LPGA career, she who gave a card of 74 (+2) at the end of the first round of the Championship Chevron on Thursday in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

The one who finished fourth in the JTBC Classic is already far from this position after the first 18 holes of this other competition. She sits in 78th place. The 33-year-old athlete, who started his day on the back nine, nevertheless wedged a birdie from the first flag, before completing his first half of the course with another birdie and two bogeys. She had more difficulty afterwards, committing three bogeys against a single birdie.

The other representative of the Maple Leaf in the running, Brooke M. Henderson, did slightly better, she who played the par of 72. She thus occupies the 48th place.

American Jennifer Kupcho and Australian Minjee Lee share the lead after one round. Both women took six punches off par.

PGA: Russell Knox tout en haut

Scotsman Russell Knox distinguished himself during the first round of the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio, so well that he took first place after giving up a card of 65 (-7).

The 36-year-old went clear with seven birdies in his first outing on the course at TPC San Antonio. He was particularly effective between the 12th and 15th pennant, where he stalled four consecutive birdies.

Knox will have to maintain that pace if he wants to stay in the driver’s seat, though, as a host of opponents are just a few shots behind. The Dane Rasmus Hojgaard will also be his main pursuer at the start of the second round, he who hit the white object 66 (-6) times in the first round. A quartet of golfers share the third rung, two strokes behind the leader.

For his part, Michael Gligic is the best positioned Canadian after 18 holes, he who shares 18th place by virtue of a score of 69 (-3). Adam Hadwin and Corey Conners have also done well, they who are a step behind their compatriot, tied for 30th place.

Nick Taylor and Adam Svensson meanwhile are 72nd, having played the par 72. The Maple Leaf’s newest member, Roger Sloan, will have his work cut out for him in the second round if he wants to move up. the peloton, he who dropped to 104th place after hitting the ball 74 (+2) times.
