Lierse chairman is deeply ashamed: “Criminal, stupid and cowardly behaviour!” † 1B Pro League

During the 1B match between Lierse-Kempenzonen and Waasland-Beveren (2-0) spectators went too far on Friday evening. Not only did they ignite bombs, they also threw them at other visitors. Reportedly, it would be heavy boys from the Netherlands.

Today Lierse-Kempenzonen published an open letter from chairman Luc Van Thillo on the club’s website. The man is deeply ashamed.

Some passages from the letter:

I still can’t place what happened on the Lisp on Friday. While in my house I take care of Ukrainian people who have fled a real war, here with us there are criminals who think it is normal that they can also use weapons during a normal football game. The contrast could not be greater.

Incomprehensible, sad, shameful,… I can’t even find the right words for it.

I would like to once again offer our apologies to the wonderful supporters of Beveren, and I also want to wish everyone who is inconvenienced a speedy recovery, after the behavior of some criminals who are unworthy of the name supporter.

Believe me, it touched me deeply.

This is not creating atmosphere, this is not even mere hooligan pranks, … no, this is criminal and stupid. Throwing such a bomb at children and parents has nothing to do with football, football atmosphere or hooliganism. Cowardly it is!

Hopefully the so-called tough guys will stand up now, offer their apologies to the Beveren supporters and compensate all victims. It would be the only correct and appropriate response now.
