Kristina Mladenovic sinks, Océane Dodin hits the big picture in Madrid

Kristina Mladenovic had a painful moment on the Madrid ocher in the second qualifying round on Wednesday. In a very complicated start to the season, the Northerner, who had finally won a match the day before in 2022 for her first qualifying round (victory against Mayar Sherif, 7-6 [7]7-5), was beaten by Anastasia Potapova (6-2, 6-0) in 1h02.

The second set was even a real shipwreck for the 99th player in the world. While leading 15-40 on the serve of the young Russian, recent winner of the Istanbul tournament, Mladenovic completely collapsed, conceding 23 points in a row, up to 5-0, 40-0, balls of game for Potapova!

Dodin joins Cornet in the final table

It does not pass either for Harmony Tan, dominated by Dayana Yastremska (6-2, 7-6 [4]), nor Clara Burel, beaten dryly by Ekaterina Alexandrova (6-1, 6-1). Alone, Océane Dodin passed the cut and managed to integrate the big table of the Madrid tournament, after her victory over Beatriz Haddad Maia (3-6, 7-6 [5], 6-2). The Northerner will be opposed in the first round to Elena Rybakina, seeded n°16, on Friday.

Alizé Cornet, the only Frenchwoman to have directly entered the main draw, will start her tournament on Thursday against the Russian Varvara Gracheva.
