SUNCHEON: World Championships Silver Medalist Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the semifinals of Korea Open Super 500 Badminton Tournament with a three-game victory over local hope hijo wan ho in the men’s singles here on Friday.
In a battle between two former world number ones, it was Srikanth who harnessed his power and precision to outclass Son Wan Ho 21-12 18-21 21-12 in the quarterfinal match that lasted just over an hour.
Srikanth went 4-7 against the Korean, having lost to him the last three times.
However, the Indian played better badminton on Friday to beat an opponent, who returns to international badminton after a two-year hiatus.
The fifth-seeded Indian will next face the winner of the match between Thailand’s eighth-seeded Kunlavut Vitidsarn and third-seeded Jonatan Christie of Indonesia.
