Judo: The Marnavalaises on the roof of Europe

The Marnavalaises Nawaliatou Babio and Lamia Ghannou, who played last weekend in a European Cup, monopolized the podiums. Nawaliatou Babio won easily in Dubrovnik, while Lamia Ghannou won a fine bronze medal in Strasbourg.

This weekend of April 23 and 24, two European Cups were organized by the European Judo Union, in which national teams, but also clubs, can participate, with registrations to the federation and a maximum selection of eight participants per weight class is allowed. It is obvious that the very high costs are borne by the clubs and these are fixed prices excluding travel, which makes for a fairly high budget for this weekend (more than 4,000 euros), including club management. On the other hand, the Marnavalaises shone at these two European Cups.

Saturday in Dubrovnik in Croatia, Nawaliatou Babio won a beautiful gold medal. She was the only Frenchwoman entered in her category. After having fought three fights, in the first round, she eliminated a Slovak, then an Italian, to find herself in the final in front of another Transalpine, where she won easily. You should know that this European Cup opens the doors to him to participate soon at the higher level, either in the World Cup or Grand Prix, either through the club or on the national team in the France team.

The next day, in Strasbourg, Lamia Ghannou, from the Pôle espoir de Strasbourg, participated in a European Cup among the cadets, the first organized by the French Federation and which brought together twenty foreign delegations and more than 350 athletes.

Lamia Ghannou was one of the eight athletes selected by the Federation, including four for the France team and the other four at the expense of the clubs.

She won a beautiful bronze medal by eliminating a few foreigners and a Frenchwoman, vice-champion of France in her category. Thus, for the bronze medal, she wins ahead of another Frenchwoman who recently finished 3e France 1 championshipsre division. Hats off to the ladies who worthily represent the club, but also Haute-Marne, hoping that this will stimulate the boys.

Eight medals at the accordinggey interclub tournament

On Saturday, the chicks of the Judo-club Marnaval Saint-Dizier 52 and its sections participated in an interclub tournament inselongey (Côte d’Or).

This competition being at the end of the holidays, very few judokas answered present. Marnaval had eight representatives who are part of the development group. They obtained eight medals, namely two gold, three silver and three bronze. The next inter-club tournament will take place at the end of May, in Couvrot. Again, this will be an opportunity for everyone to assess the work done since the start of the year, knowing that these young people, for two years with Covid-19, have performed very few competitions.
