in Brazil, a guard threatened with death on social networks

LE SCAN SPORT – Corinthians goalkeeper Cássio has received death threats on social media after his club lost in the Copa Libertadores. The club filed a complaint.

This Wednesday, Corinthians lost 2-0 on the lawn of the Bolivian club Always Ready, during the first day of the group stage of the Copa Libertadores (equivalent to the South American Champions League).

Cássio, the club’s goalkeeper since 2011 and regular captain, complained of receiving death threats on social media following the defeat. The 34-year-old doorman reportedly received several voicemails, as did his wife. The Corinthians club immediately filed a complaint.

«Sport Club Corinthians Paulista vehemently denounces the death and violence threats made against goalkeeper Cássio and his family through messages sent on a social network. The club has already appealed to the Commissariat for the Repression of Sporting Intolerance Offenses (DRADE) to take appropriate measures for the safety of athletes. We hope that the authorities will be able to identify the perpetrator of this crime and that he will be subject to the penalties of the law.“says the club at the seven Brazilian championships in a press release.

«Our mission is one of peace, respect and equality, in victory and in defeat. The footballer is a human being who has the right to physical and psychological health. We ask supporters to respect the person of the player and his family and to reject with us any initiative which tries to transform football into an activity where violence is tolerable.»
