It’s time to turn the page, to Perrey-Guerrier judo clubto Havre. Or rather to close the book altogether. The institution that formed Luka Mkheidze during his childhood, bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, decided to throw in the towel. “We are on the street. We are without a fixed dojo”, ironically one of its leaders, Thomas Destin.

“It’s demotivating”

In September 2021, the CNH, which had hosted it for four years, decided to take over the premises to set up a boxing club there. Since then, the 140 licensees of Perrey-Guerrier must train in the 44 square meters of the canteen of theJoan of Arc schoolat Holy Address. “The director helped us out for a year, but she told me that on June 30, we had to find a solution, explains Thomas Destin. It is not possible to continue in such a situation. At the beginning, putting the mats, we tell ourselves that it will do, and then after three, four months, it is demotivating. We don’t even want to anymore. »

So the club asked the town hall to help find a solution. “We received it several times and we tried as much as possible to see the different possibilities, assures Régis Debons, in charge of sports at the City of Le Havre. The concern is that his will is to stay in the city center. And in the city center, today, there are no facilities that allow you to do judo. »

Several slots offered

Several time slots have been offered to Perrey-Guerrier at dojo André Saussayethat of Deschaseaux Stadium and in a 100 m² room in the same area. All were refused by the club, which estimates that by moving there, “we would lose 70% of our members”.

Régis Debons remains skeptical about this argument: “I don’t agree with that. People who go athletics, rock climbing, where do they go? To the beach ? We have a tram that serves the whole city, a whole bus network with Lia that serves all the districts. What we really don’t want is to have a compartmentalized neighborhood. We try our best to allow everyone to express themselves in relation to their needs, but we must recognize that the sports facilities are more in the outlying districts of the city, it is also a political choice that we have made. »

” It’s disgusting “

Despite everything, Thomas Destin does not take off. He speaks of “incompetence” and even of “boycott” on the part of the City. ” It’s disgusting. How to fight against a town hall that does not want to see us continue? he asks. It’s bullshit on all levels. I don’t even know who to blame more. It’s a failure on everyone’s part, ours too, we’re not going to hide. »

Disgusted, the leader of the Perrey-Guerrier club will therefore close the door in June 2022 and will write the rest of his story “far from Le Havre”. He sold his house and moved to another club, The Crown Grand Angouleme Judo.
