“He’s the MVP, I don’t even see why there would still be a debate on it”

A few days before the end of the regular season, who will be able to win the MVP crown? According to a former coach, the discussion didn’t actually more place to be… According to him, one player in particular flies over the competition and deserves to be rewarded.

There is only one game left for the NBA franchises, before the regular campaign comes to an end. Beyond that, nothing will count in the votes for the title of MVP, the most prestigious of individual distinctions. It is in the racket that everything should be played, since three interiors emerge as the favorites. Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo have notably destroyed everything in their path this season, respectively in search of their first and third statuette.

And then, we should not forget Nikola Jokic, who also has a very solid record. Defending champion, the Serbian pivot also chained the big matches in the final sprint, notably making history against the Grizzlies. The leader of Denver performs an even more impressive exercise than the previous one, and yet it is not an easy task. Former Magic coach Stan Van Gundy is amazed at what he has to offer. According to him, you might as well give him the trophy right away:

To be honest, I don’t understand why there is still such discussion about it. I really do not understand. It’s not that tight. You look at the top three contenders… He dominates them all in virtually every advanced stat category. I really do not see how we could objectively campaign for another player than him.

Rudy Gobert also said he was in favor of the Joker, and one can hardly dispute SVG’s arguments on this point. Indeed, the number 15 of the Nuggets must play without Jamal Murray for a year and without Michael Porter Jr. for several weeks, his two main lieutenants. This does not prevent him from pulling his team up (48-33, 6th), and he does so by dusting off the history books. Thanks to his huge performance against Memphis, he has established himself as an absolutely all-time player:

– First season in history with 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 500 assists
– First player in history with averages of 25 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists in a season (he turns 27/14/8)
– First player in 50 years to be in the Top 10 in average points, rebounds, assists and shooting percentage

Nikola Jokic has delivered an absolutely immense season as the reigning MVP, and seeing him retain his crown wouldn’t be a scandal. To see if the league will want to grant him this honor, or if the votes will lean in favor of his competitors.
