Harold Varner III alone at the head of the RBC Heritage, Patrick Cantlay in pursuit

After a course without bogey and in 63 strokes (-8), Harold Varner III is leading the RBC Heritage after 54 holes. The American managed 8 birdies including 5 on the way, thus achieving the best score of the tournament this week (-11 total).

Defending FedExCup champion and leader after 36 holes, Patrick Cantlay, is now one stroke behind Varner III after a Saturday in 70. He shares this position with Northern Irishman Shane Lowry and South African Erik van Rooyen, who could become the sixth international winner of the RBC Heritage since 2012 on Sunday.

Of the 12 players at -8 or better, Varner III (1st) and Tommy Fleetwood (64, 9th, -8) are looking to earn their first PGA Tour victory. Also in 9th place are Jordan Spieth and Billy Horschel, respectively authors of cards of 68 and 67 and Joel Dahmen, author of a 69.

Note the new good performance of the Austrian Sepp Straka, who is in 5th place (67, -9). He shares this rank with Aaron Wise (68) and Matt Kuchar (69).
