León, Guanajuato.- With a delegation of 45 athletes, Mexico is present at the XXIV Deaflympic Games to be held in Caixas do Sul in Brazil. In the national delegation, Guanajuato has a presence with the judoka Isabel Huitrón and Bonfilio Lara, a soccer team.
Postponed in 2021, the Caixas do Sul Deaflympic Games will take place from May 1 to 15. For this edition, Mexico will attend with a delegation of 45 athletes from the disciplines of athletics, volleyball (men’s and women’s), taekwondo, karate, judo and men’s soccer, in the last two disciplines Celayans Isabel Huitrón and Bonfilio Lara will compete, respectively.
CHAMPION
In the case of Isabel Huitrón, there are high expectations since she defends her title after winning the gold medal in the -48kg judo category at the Samsun 2017 edition.
The Guanajuato native is a strong prospect for a medal in the event, as recognized by María Eugenia Rivera, president of the Mexican Federation of Sports for the Deaf.
“The expectations for Mexico are positive, Isabel Huitrón is going to defend her title at Samsun 2017 and we hope that our teams from the other disciplines also do well in their competitions, they are really looking forward to it and we hope they achieve a good result”, the leader highlighted to CONADE.
In the soccer representative there is also a Guanajua presence with Bonfilio Lara, defender who is captain of the Guanajuato Deaf FC team, a team with which he played the quarterfinals in the National Soccer League for the Deaf.
Lara Marroquín is currently concentrated with the Mexican team at the CNAR. For the Deaflympics, Mexico is located in Group D together with Senegal, Greece, Uzbekistan and South Korea.
The departure of the tricolor squad headed by coach Ali de Lucio is scheduled for April 26. Isabel Huitrón will also be leaving a week before the inauguration ceremony, which is scheduled for May 1.
