The judge in Miami has asked the activist group that wants to stop the Formula 1 race in Miami in May, consisting of citizens from the Miami Gardens area, to provide evidence within less than three weeks that so much noise can arise that local residents can actually incur damage.

As a result, the Grand Prix, which will be held in just over two weeks, remains in doubt. A few days ago it was already announced that there would be an action group that wants to stop the Miami Grand Prix. According to the activist group, the Miami Grand Prix could cause “serious disruption and physical injury to residents of Miami Gardens” for people living at or near the street circuit. They thought the situation was so serious that they went to court to stop the Grand Prix.

Judge wants proof

The judge has heard and viewed the case and wants the group to provide evidence within three weeks. This says the Miami Herald† That evidence should make it clear whether there is indeed damage for the people near the place where the race will be held that could be really permanent or dangerous. Based on this evidence, the judge will determine whether it is necessary for an emergency meeting to be held before May 6 or whether the Grand Prix can simply go ahead. The process may also take longer, but then the ruling will have an effect on the races of 2023 and later. This year’s Grand Prix could then continue as usual. Miami’s contract with Formula 1 is ten years.

Miami GP 2022

The Miami Grand Prix is in a similar situation to the Zandvoort Grand Prix last year. This year Formula 1 will head to Miami for the first time to race in the city, making it the second race in 2022 to be held in America. Next year, these two races will also be on the calendar and there will even be a third race in America. Las Vegas will then return to the calendar with an evening race.
