Former Latvian sleigh rider Putin changes his surname due to the war

The 27-year-old sled rider became Kristen Rodi this week.

The first part of Section 2 of the Law on Change of Name, Surname and Nationality Record stipulates that a Latvian citizen has also reached the age of 15 to change his or her surname if any of the reasons listed in this law exist, including “the surname makes it difficult for a person to integrate into society”.

In January 2020, Latvian sledge Kristens Putins and Imants Marcinkēvičs triumphed in the Sigulda stage of the World Sprint Cup, but decided to end their career next season.
