Julian Nagelsmann had sharply criticized SC Freiburg. The Breisgauer had lodged an objection to the rating of the game against Munich. Freiburg coach Christian Streich did not let Nagelsmann go through with the statement. The FC Bayern coach now showed greatness.
DFC Bayern’s arduous victory against FC Augsburg (1-0) was preceded by a remarkable reaction. Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann addressed an apology to his Freiburg colleague Christian Streich in an interview with “Sky”. He regrets his comments on the Breisgauer’s objection to the game’s rating a week ago.
“I’m someone who speaks my mind. But I’m also someone who admits when I’ve made a mistake. In that case I made a mistake. I didn’t have the big dimension of the law, the sports law, the eV law on the screen and I didn’t understand it either. I’m honest about that,” said Nagelsmann: “Sorry to Freiburg, sorry to Christian, whom I hadn’t personally attacked.”
After the Munich substitution error a week ago, the Bayern coach had criticized the sports club after they had lodged an objection to the game rating after the 4-1 defeat against Munich. “Personally, I wouldn’t have done it because I think you’re exploiting a third party’s mistake to maybe score points because the pressure from the fans or the sponsors is so great,” Nagelsmann said: “I don’t know if you can pat yourself on the back, you should play internationally because of three points that you didn’t actually win in sporting terms. I wouldn’t be so happy there. That’s why I would have clearly communicated to the club that we would not object.”
Hamann’s criticism of FC Bayern
For this, the Bayern coach received harsh criticism from Streich. “It cannot be that there are three parties. Two make a mistake, not a minor mistake. Which isn’t bad at all. Everybody makes mistakes. I make mistakes too. And afterwards the third party is the one who is then pilloried by certain people, sometimes by those who made the mistakes. This is an absolute nonsense. We heard that very carefully,” Streich had argued. He pointed out that the SC board members had to act in this way simply because of their duty of loyalty and personal liability.
Nagelsmann expressed the hope that personally the relationship with Streich would not suffer. He also wanted to call him. The DFB sports court had finally rejected the Freiburg objection.
Meanwhile, Sky expert Dietmar Hamann criticized that Nagelsmann had not been better informed by FC Bayern before the controversial statements. “What about FC Bayern’s communications department? How can that be?” Hamann said the coach was “a sign of strength, a sign of greatness, which I missed on the Bayern boardroom”.
