Facundo Campazzo stretched his bad moment at Denver Nuggets: he was sent off against the Los Angeles Lakers

The situation of Facundo Campazzo is far from ideal. After eight games in which he was sidelined in Denver Nuggetshad returned to add minutes in some commitments, just as he did on Saturday night, when he intervened in the victory of the Colorado franchise over Memphis Grizzlies, in the penultimate day of the regular season of the NBA. Michael Malone, the coach of Denver, again gave him the chance to add a game against the Los Angeles Lakers, but the point guard from Cordoba was ejected during the second quarter, for a flagrant Grade 2 foul—an obvious shove—from behind on Wayne Ellington. And so he finished his regular season in his second season in the best basketball league in the world.

The infraction occurred with just over 7 minutes remaining in the second quarter, after Campazzo failed to convert a double and fell behind the base of the rim; when he returned to the field of play, he directly pushed Ellington, who as he fell hit his head on teammate Wenyen Gabriel’s leg. After consultations with the videoref, his expulsion was determined, for committing a flagrant offense of grade 2.

It was a shame, because Campazzo had played a good role up to that point, playing just over 8 minutes, during which time he had scored 3 points (1-3 triples) and distributed 4 assists, in addition to recovering 2 balls. But it all fell apart on that play in which he led a fast break, and after he appeared to have been fouled, and then an unannounced goaltending, the select guard came back onto the floor and attacked Wayne Ellington from behind.

A few days ago, in his column in LA NACION, Campazzo commented on his situation in Denver: “I dare to say that it is a special and somewhat strange moment. I’m not saying it’s unusual, but it is. it’s not the most comfortable for me. This thing of not playing as much happened to me in the first year in the clubs where I was, for example, in Peñarol and in Real Madrid, so I could say that this second year in Denver is my first year in the NBA. In any case, I take it as an apprenticeship, although I cannot deny that I want to play, that I want to show that I can compete (…) You have to learn at every step, because you always have to tame your head. There are times when I think about the next season, there are times when I think about the national team, others when I tell myself enough ‘I’m going to concentrate here, because you never know what can happen’. It is a roller coaster, in which the head shoots to any side and the reality is that I have to enjoy what I have and not so much to look at what has not yet happened or is far from happening.

Campazzo, by decision of coach Michael Malone, did not play in Denver, which is already qualified for the post-season, since last March 20, in the loss against the Boston Celtics (124-104. But the coach made him enter almost three minutes against Memphis. And just a day later, he gave him a new opportunity. The Cordovan had a reaction that cost him an expulsion that again subtracts his chances, just when the decisive instance of the season is approaching.
