The allegations against the Valaisian date back to October 2014 when he attended a gathering of European tennis coaches in Estonia’s capital, Tallinn. According to the indictment, he is said to have behaved immorally towards a trainer of the Austrian delegation after an evening of heavy drinking.
The two trainer delegations from Austria and Switzerland have therefore undertaken an extensive “bar tour” together. Allegro ended up in his hotel room with the Austrian. It is said that the sexual assault happened there.
He apologized
The next day, neither of them could remember what had happened that night. They exchanged text messages in which the Valais apologized, among other things, “for this night” and his “not gentlemanly” behavior and the plaintiff wondered about the bruises and other signs on her body. A few hours later she takes a picture of it.
Forty-eight hours later, memories of the night flooded her mind. She confided in members of her delegation and her best friend.
The plaintiff said, among other things, that she was in a room with the accused completely naked, that she remembered very severe pinching of her nipples, insertion of a finger or an unknown object into her anus, severe pain and slapping. According to the indictment, the medical report essentially shows that the distribution and localization of the injuries found on the plaintiff agree with her statements.
Defense pleaded for acquittal
Allegro, charged with “rape in the assumption of full-blown sexual intercourse and/or sexual assault,” says he can’t remember anything. “My last memory is that I drank an alcohol shot and then went on the dance floor,” he said before the trial court. The 43-year-old considers the whole situation to be “incomprehensible. I have never been violent towards anyone». The defense had pleaded for acquittal.
The district court of Sierre found Allegro guilty of sexual assault but not of rape. He was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment with a two-year suspended sentence. The Valais appealed to the cantonal court.
Prosecutors had asked for four years in prison without parole for rape and sexual assault. “The only element that speaks for the accused is his lack of a criminal record,” said prosecutor Corinne Caldelari, who also appealed. (SDA)
