Eight days that can pay the RTD salary

BarcelonaAfter putting the permanence on track in March and seeing how the European options faded almost completely with the defeat at the Reale Arena, Espanyol starts this Sunday against Celta (4.15pm, M. LaLiga) a final stretch of the championship in which, although it may seem that it will have nothing at stake, its performance will have very important effects for the future.

Regardless of whether the seventh position ends up giving access to Europe (it would be like this if the winner of the Cup, Betis or Valencia, finishes among the top six), the difference in economic terms that would have for Espanyol to finish seventh or seventeen will be equivalent to just over five million euros this year; or, equivalent, to have paid the highest salary of the white-and-blue staff. Raúl de Tomás earns about 4.5 million euros gross each year. He is the most decisive parakeet player, but also the one who generates the most salary.

This variation in income lies in the difference in the weighted average that the white-and-blue club would get in terms of the economic game that the League distributes to the clubs according to their classification. The competition plans to distribute, for this course, about 1,486 million euros among the total clubs of Primera. Of this figure, 25% (it would be about 371 million this year) is distributed according to the position that each team has obtained in the last five seasons.

According to the calculations made by ARA, Espanyol would have approximately 8.9 million euros for this concept, if it ends up in the position it currently occupies (12th). Climbing a place and finishing 11th would mean, only for the current season, earning about 9.2 million, which would mean an increase of about 320,000 euros. Each position of more or less would also have effects in the next four years. Falling one place (finishing 13th) would mean going down to 8.5 million, about 330,000 euros less. More significant, however, would be the differences in the case of being seventh (would charge about 12.4 million, 3.5 more than he would receive if he finished where he is now) or seventeenth (7.2 million, about 1.6 million less than I would have now).

The final stretch of the league, therefore, will be crucial for Espanyol financially. In the last eight games, the white-and-blues will play against five teams immersed in this league that goes from the seventh to the seventeenth. After Celta, with whom he is tied at 36 points, Vicente Moreno’s team will also face Rayo Vallecano (33), Osasuna (38), Valencia (41) and Granada (29). Key commitments that can be used to pay the salary of RDT, the footballer in the squad with the most market and, at the same time, raises the level of attack of the team.

De Tomás, new on the list

The Madrid striker will be the big news on Vicente Moreno’s list to play against Celta. After suffering from physical problems in one shoulder in the concentration with the Spanish selection, De Tomás lost the party against the Real Society. “It won’t be 100%, but let’s see if he can play for a while or even if he can start as a starter,” said the Spanish coach, who gave no further clues as to who will be the starting point. .
