Dutch cyclist Milan Vader ‘in critical condition’ after crash on Tour of the Basque Country

Milan Vader was seriously injured in a fall during the 5th stage of the Tour of the Basque Country. The 26-year-old Dutch cyclist from the Jumbo-Visma team was taken by ambulance to hospital in Bilbao after the fall, where he was treated for multiple injuries. His condition is stable, the team’s spokesperson told ANP.

His father, Patrick Vader, told the Dutch daily Provinciale Zeeuwse Courant that stents were going to be placed in his son’s carotid arteries because they had narrowed. Milan also reportedly suffered a fractured vertebrae, a broken scapula and a broken collarbone.

Vader is a neo-professional on the road in the Jumbo-Visma team. Before that, he was mainly active in mountain biking, notably finishing 10th at the Tokyo Olympics.
