The Spaniard Alexander Davidovich, the 46th player in the world, qualified this Friday in Monte Carlo for his first semi-final of a Masters 1000 by defeating the American Taylor Fritz (13th), after a disputed match, by 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, in 2 hours and 25 minutes.

In a tournament in which he defeated world number one Novak Djokovic in the second round, Davidovich (22 years old) will face the winner of the quarterfinal duel between Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (29th) and Pole Hubert Hurkacz (14th) to try to get to the final.

The result of the first set did not reflect the intensity of the set or the extent to which Fritz was under pressure. The American complained of pain in his stomach, to the point of calling the doctor twice, but managed to get his sleeves up, breaking the Spaniard’s serve twice.

But Davidovich had already shown against Djokovich his ability to fight every ball, every point, every game, without hesitating to throw himself to the ground and come to bleed.

And Fritz, winner in March in Indian Wells, would also be defeated in the end, with two consecutive sets won by the Spaniard of Russian parents.
