With a protest, an animal rights activist caused the game to be interrupted in the NBA playoff game between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Minnesota Timberwolves (117:130).
The 19-year-old woman chained herself to a basketball hoop on Saturday – the game therefore had to be temporarily stopped in the second quarter. Security forces first removed the chain around her neck and led the woman out of the hall.
The woman was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and trespassing. She belongs to a group of animal rights activists who are protesting conditions at production sites. Timberwolves co-owner Glen Taylor also owns livestock farms. With her t-shirt slogan, the woman criticized Taylor.
A few days ago there was already a similar action at a game of the Timberwolves in the professional basketball league NBA: A woman had glued herself to the floor in protest.
In the Bundesliga, the game between Eintracht Frankfurt and SC Freiburg was interrupted a week ago because two men had attached themselves to both posts of a goal in a protest action. The men wore T-shirts with the inscription: “Last Generation – Stop the fossil madness”. A similar action also took place in the Premier League a few weeks ago.
