More than three years after the plane crash that cost the life of Emiliano Sala, Cardiff would claim nearly 100 million euros from FC Nantes, due to its relegation to the Championsip.

On January 21, 2019, Emiliano Sala, who had officially signed up with Cardiff City two days earlier, lost his life on a plane from Nantes to Wales. The Argentinian striker was 28 years old. And the two clubs are still in dispute, while we learned last month thathe was probably already unconscious at the time of his death, after being poisoned by carbon monoxide. In its first judgment, Fifa confirmed that he had indeed terminated his contract and no longer belonged to the Canaries at the time of the tragedy, ordering Cardiff to settle the entire transfer (17 million euros) in three instalments. A judgment contested by the Welsh club, which seized the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). And the CAS, after two days of hearing in early March, should deliver its decision in the coming weeks.

Cardiff and the Tevez case

In a book released on Monday that promises “the truth about Emiliano Sala’s death”, it is revealed that Cardiff would claim 80 million pounds from Nantes (just over 95 million euros), to compensate for the loss of TV rights, advertising and sponsors following the club’s descent into the Championshipreports The Sun. A few months after Sala’s death, the Bluebirds left the Premier League and have never returned since. Those who currently occupy 19th place (out of 24) in the English second tier believe that they could have kept their place in the elite with the ex-Nantes striker in their ranks. The Welsh rely on the case of Carlos Tevez in 2007, when West Ham, finally maintained, had been sanctioned for the third property of the Argentinian. Relegated, Sheffield United had protested, believing that the Hammers should have had points deducted instead of being financially sanctioned. And Sheffield had recovered more than 30 million euros in compensation.
