The Venezuelan slugger, Miguel Cabrera is even closer to reaching the mythical number of 3,000 hits in the Major Leagues, when he connected a single this Tuesday in the game in which his team the Detroit Tigers fell 2-4 against the Yankees of New York, reported sports media.

The meeting was held at Comerica Park, where Cabrera lined up as designated hitter and hit this hit to reach 2,996 hits in his 20-year career in the Major Leagues.

With that amount, the player from Maracay ranks 33rd on the list of top hitters of all time, led by the American Pete Rose, who totaled 4,256 hits.

Cabrera, 39, went 1-for-3 with a run scored to drop his average to .281.
