Berlin Bottom of the table 1. FC Köln celebrated their first win of the season in the Bundesliga on the last day of the first half of the season. The Rhinelanders won 1-0 (0-0) against VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday. Autumn champion Bayern Munich did not show any weakness at VfB Stuttgart either. Coach Jupp Heynckes’ team won 1-0 (0-0). Werder Bremen narrowly missed three points in the 2-2 (2-0) duel in the important relegation battle with FSV Mainz 05. Nevertheless, SVW overtook Hamburger SV, who are now penultimate. Eintracht Frankfurt separated 2:2 (1:0) from FC Schalke 04, FC Augsburg got a 3:3 (1:1) against SC Freiburg thanks to a brilliant final phase.

Joker Christian Clemens gave the Cologne team a sense of achievement at the end of an otherwise totally screwed up first series. The 26-year-old scored the crucial 1-0 for FC in the 67th minute. With only six points, the Domstadters still have little chance of playing first-class in the coming season.

When keeper Sven Ulreich returned to Bayern’s goal and his former home in Stuttgart, the German record champions had a hard time for a long time. VfB held back well, but eleven minutes before the end, Thomas Müller fired the leader forward. Seconds before the final whistle, Ulreich saved a penalty from Chadrac Akolo and saved the victory for the Munich team.

The hosts got off to a flying start in Frankfurt: Luka Jovic scored the 1-0 for SGE in the second minute. Schalke had chances to equalize before the break, but Sebastien Haller increased Eintracht’s lead in the second half (66′). However, it wasn’t enough for the Hessians: First, Breel Embolo (82′) scored to connect, then Naldo scored the equalizer (90’+5′). Schalke has been unbeaten since matchday six.

Like Eintracht, Werder also scored an early goal. Philipp Bargfrede shot the team of coach Florian Kohfeldt in front (2nd). Ishak Belfodil headed in fifteen minutes later. Mainz came back through Robin Quaison (70th) but again. With his late 2:2 Fabian Frei was the celebrated man at FSV.

In Augsburg it was even more dramatic. Alfred Finnbogason saved FCA a late point with two goals in added time. The Icelander put the hosts ahead in the second minute. Christian Günter equalized for the guests from Breisgau (20′), goalscorer Nils Petersen initially turned the game around for Freiburg with a brace (48’/65′), before Finnbogason, who scored three times, came up trumps. Due to the draw, FCA remains in a secure midfield with contact to the international places. Freiburg hibernates four points in front of the relegation place.
