Boris Becker trial: Judgment expected – today was the last chance – people

All or nothing!

Boris Becker (54) looked nervous on Wednesday in front of London’s Southwark Court and touched his face several times during Judge Deborah Taylor’s (52) closing speech. Because: Now only the jury can save him from prison!

The last day of the trial in the criminal trial against Boris Becker took place in London. The focus was on the final word by Knallhart judge Deborah Taylor. From eleven o’clock onwards, she gave her final word to the jury and summarized the trial.

The tough judge even appealed to the jury: “You have to consider what kind of life Mr. Becker led.” But she also said: “He says he signed documents but never read them.”

The ex-tennis star is said to have kept real estate, bank accounts and trophies secret from the insolvency administrator in 24 cases after his bankruptcy in 2017. Becker denies everything. The prosecutor, on the other hand, considers him guilty on all counts.

Becker appeared at 10 a.m. and, like Tuesday, paced nervously up and down in his glass case before the hearing began. In addition to his girlfriend Lilian, his son Noah (28), with whom the tennis star has a very close relationship, was also in the audience.

The jury heard a lengthy summary of the hearing by Judge Taylor. At around 3:19 p.m. (local time) she then sent the jury out of the room for deliberation. They are now being asked to reach a unanimous verdict as to whether Becker is guilty or not guilty of at least one count. Otherwise, the majority decision applies.

It’s unclear how long the jury will need to reach their verdict. The jury is not subject to any time limit and can take days or even weeks to make a decision.

That means he, like the attorneys, will have to wait during court hours for the next few days for the jury to report their decision or for questions to arise. Becker had to go back to court on Wednesday after the end of the hearing at 5:09 p.m. and 5:35 p.m. because the jury had questions about the dates in the statement of claim, among other things.

If they find Becker guilty, the judge will decide what sentence he will receive.

This means that Becker, like the attorneys, will have to wait during court hours for the coming days for the jury to report back.

What does a possible guilty verdict mean for Becker? He could either be released subject to conditions pending sentencing or, in the worst case, be taken into custody in court and remain in prison pending sentencing.

Wandsworth Prison in the South London Borough of Wandsworth is being traded as a possible location for this possible pre-trial detention. Nickname: “Screws Jail” (jail where the guards call the shots).

Another possible second prison is Belmarsh (HMP Belmarsh), a maximum security prison in the Thamesmead area.
