“Bizarre and disrespectful”: tennis star criticized

Tennis player Victoria Azarenka says she is currently going through “moments of extreme stress”. For this reason, the Belarusian even broke off her third round match at the Miami Open. The behavior of the former first-ranking list was not well received by a colleague.

On Sunday, Victoria Azarenka announced that she would be taking a break from tennis. The 32-year-old had previously stopped her game at the Miami Open against Linda Fruhvirtova from the Czech Republic at the score and 2: 6 and 0: 3.

Daniela Hantuchová then harshly criticized Azarenka’s resignation. “The most disrespectful thing about it is how she left the court without really giving a reason,” the former world number five is quoted as saying by “tennisnet.com”.

Hantuchová believes that the WTA should look into the incident. “It’s bizarre for me and really disrespectful towards the spectators, the referee and especially towards Linda,” added the 38-year-old: “Vika simply knows that if she continued like this, she would be away from the field very soon anyway. But The way she did it, it’s not nice behavior.”

Tennis star Azarenka is self-critical

Azarenka had been self-critical after her withdrawal. “The last game was tiring for me, but I wanted to play in front of this big crowd. That helped me a lot in the last game. I wanted to throw everything in and try, but it was a mistake,” said the two-time Grand Slam winner .

About two weeks ago, Azarenka caused a stir in Indian Wells. In the match against the Russian Elena Rybakina, who started for Kazakhstan, she burst into tears in the second set with the score of 2:2 on the pitch and was only able to continue after a minute-long interruption.

One reason for their fragile state is apparently the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, in which their home country is also involved as a party to the conflict on Russia’s side. From the start, Azarenka had openly opposed the war.
