BBL: Hamburg Towers celebrate the highest victory in club history – basketball

The Hamburg Towers went on a lap of honour. And the 2414 fans in the Inselpark stood, clapped and cheered.

What! For! One! Demonstration!

In the play-off “final” against Crailsheim, they completely destroyed their pursuer: 113:63 (58:33)! The biggest victory in the club’s history – and a giant step towards the quarterfinals in the basketball Bundesliga.

“I liked that we were never satisfied with the result in the 40 minutes and stayed hungry,” praised coach Pedro Calles (38).

When the run-in show was on, a basket still had to be screwed on. When the light went on again, half the hall was dark, the WiFi was gone and the scoreboards were off: short circuit!

The first jump ball flew 5 minutes late in the air. But the wait was worth it for the 2414 fans.

The towers threw themselves in, defended with devotion and played their way into a frenzy with an outstanding team performance, leading by up to 54 points (113:59/38.)!

In addition to the long-term injured Zach Brown (26/broken foot), top scorer Caleb Homesley (25/back) was surprisingly absent.

But the Triple Towers took over for him: Jaylon Brown (27), who set a personal record for the season with 29 points. Center Maik Kotsar (25/22 points), who excelled with 100 percent shot rate. And Justus Hollatz (20), who with 14 assists just missed his own assist record (15) for German players.

The party made the dance team complete, who made their comeback after a two-year Corona break.

With the badly decimated Merlins, the magic is gone. Since MVP candidate and ex-Tower TJ Shorts (24/pectoral tendon rupture) is missing, it has been the fifth bankruptcy in a row…

The Towers will continue on Monday in the EuroCup with the catch-up home game against Panevezys/Lithuania (7.30 p.m., Magenta Sport). The Hamburgers are already qualified for the round of 16.
