Barça held in check in Frankfurt

The first leg of the Europa League quarter-final was tighter than expected and the Germans did more than resist the Spaniards.

Everything remains to be played between Frankfurt and Barça. Held in check in Germany (1-1), the favorite of the competition will have to do the job in a week at Camp Nou after conceding a draw on Thursday. At the start of the match, Eintracht Frankfurt shook the FC Barcelona defense with three big chances in less than ten minutes. If behind the Spaniards regained control of the game, the Germans were dangerous on the counter. They could have benefited from a penalty but the referee and especially the VAR decided otherwise (38th). Oliver Glasner’s men finally opened my mark with an incredible volley from Ansgar Knauff at the entrance to the area (48th) before seeing Barça return to the match.

Dominated until the hour mark, FC Barcelona’s game was transformed with the combined entries of Frenkie De Jong and Ousmane Dembélé. The duo is behind the equalization of Ferran Torres with a magnificent one-touch movement (66th). The Catalans were on the manpower for almost fifteen minutes with Tuta sent off, but they didn’t take advantage of it. Overall, the Spaniards were disappointing.
