What a battle! Carlos Alcaraz put on another great show, this time outperforming Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach the semifinals ofATP 500 of Barcelona. Scoring many winners, the 18-year-old Iberian beat Tsitsipas for the third time in as many matches, but everything could have been much simpler.
Just like at the US Open last year and in Miami earlier this season, Alcaraz overtook Tsitsipas, this time on clay, with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in a 2-hour match. and 11 minutes of play.
The Spanish prodigy in the first set was patient until he benefited from the first break points at 4-4 in the first set. Alcaraz smelled the break and broke the Greek before easily closing a set in which he conceded only four points on his serve.
Already in the second game of the second set, Carlitos showed no signs of slowing down and continued with a frenetic pace that left Tsitsipas with no solution at the bottom line and unsure what to do in the face of the countless damps coming from the other side. The Spaniard quickly turned to a two-break lead at 4-1 before the Greek finally woke up. So much so that he won six of the seven games available and took the game to the third set.
When the decisive moment came, Alcaraz went straight ahead and took it 4-0, then a controversial sudden move by Tsitsipas who went to the locker room to change clothes – it took too long because he was in the middle of the set and he lost two points automatically (one for every 25 seconds).
What is certain is that then Carlos sealed the match that guaranteed him an unprecedented entry into the top 10, also the result of the defeat of Cameron Norrie.
Alcaraz will now be looking for his third final of the season and, for that, he will have to overcome Alex de Minaur, who beat a Norrie who appeared very tired 6-3, 5-7, 6-1.
