Athletes from Querétaro are ready to compete in the 2022 Deaflympics

A total of six athletes from Queretaro in the disciplines of karate and soccer will represent Mexico at the Caxias do Sul Deaflympics Games, Brazil 2022, which will take place from May 1 to 15.

On this occasion, Querétaro has the largest number of those summoned to these Deaflympic Games in the soccer discipline that is made up of Misael Torrentera, Gibran Franco, Alejandro Arriaga, Omar Lara and Oswaldo Estrada. In addition, it is the first time that Mexico will compete with a soccer team.

“We want to show listening people that we also have talent, we can also participate in professional competitions among other things. The point is that there are also deaf people who have a physical or intellectual talent to perform in the best way in sports, not only in those focused on deaf people, but also in conventional sports competitions”, said Alejandro Arriaga.

In the discipline of karate, Miguel Rocha is the only representative from Queretaro, this is his second time as a national team in the Deaflympics Games, the first time was in 2017 where he obtained fifth place in the world ranking.

The Mexican team for the Deaflympics Games is made up of 45 athletes who will participate in six disciplines: soccer, karate, athletics, judo, taekwondo and volleyball. This Wednesday night the first group of athletes traveled and on Thursday, May 3, the last group will leave for the deaf Olympics.
