AS Monaco: Philippe Clement, the return to grace on “Le Rocher”

When Philippe Clement landed on Le Rocher in January to replace Nico Kovac, misunderstanding reigned among the supporters and even among many observers of the club. If all was not idyllic with the Croatian technician, nothing was done wrong and he was still favored by most. Clement therefore arrived in a strange context, where only the leaders were convinced of their choice. He had no room for error, and above all did not benefit from any time to adapt.

In mid-March, three months after his arrival, the results were mixed. Monaco then experienced two eliminations in a short time, in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France and in the round of 16 of the Europa League. But rather than sinking into the crisis, the Monegasques reacted. A clear victory against PSG first showed the way, and it was followed by three more successes, against Metz, Troyes and Rennes. A twelve out of twelve which allowed the “White and Red” to make a good rise in the standings, and to return to the race for Europe.

Currently fourth at three points from Rennes, Clement’s men believe in it again. The dynamic is finally positive, the supporters enthusiastic and the coach can finally breathe a little. Very close to dismissal a month ago, he is now planning for the coming season. It seems, logically, a little more serene.

Speaking to Prime Video he said: “It’s never pleasant (the departure rumours), but I’m focused on my work with the players, with the staff, with all the people around at the club. We worked really hard, it was necessary. Everyone everyone at the club was concerned. I’m sure that if you work in the right way, the results will come. We can still grow a lot with this team, with a few more transfers for the new season. But we have to continue until the end of the season.”
