Army Paratroopers Cause Capitol Evacuation – NBC4 Washington

A plane and paratroopers heading to the ballpark at Nationals Stadium on Military Appreciation Day in Washington DC prompted the evacuation of the Capitol building on Wednesday, NBC News reported.

Capitol Police ordered the evacuation, saying they were “tracking an aircraft that poses a probable threat.” A short time later, police said there was no threat.

Two Capitol Police sources told NBC News that the evacuation was prompted by the appearance in the skies of Golden Knightsthe US Army parachute team.

To attempt the record, skydivers simultaneously jumped from five different planes and exceeded 120 mph.

It appears to have been a miscommunication, the sources said, prompting an automatic precautionary evacuation.

US Capitol Police were not notified in advance of the Golden Knights’ planned jump at Nationals Park, according to a law enforcement source.

The Golden Knights parachuted into the stadium, located a few blocks from the Capitol building, as part of Military Appreciation Day in Washington DC.
