Tennis player Linda Fruhvirt will play the Madrid Open clay tournament. Currently, the 204th player in the world received a wild card from the organizers in the main competition of the prestigious event and could celebrate her seventeenth birthday in the Spanish capital.

Fruhvirtová also received a wild card this year in Miami, where, despite the former number one Victoria Azarenkova from Belarus, she advanced to the round of 16. In it, she succumbed to the Spaniard Paula Badosa.

Then she played in Charleston and in the 2nd round she was not enough for the later winner Belinda Bencicová from Switzerland. When she premiered in the Billie Jean King Cup team competition, Fruhvirt succumbed to the British Harriet Dart last week.

Thanks to the wild card, the Japanese Naomi Osaka and the Rio 2016 Olympic champion Monica Puig from Puerto Rico, who last played Roland Garros in September 2020, will play in Madrid thanks to a wild card.

The tournament in Madrid is one of nine competitions that fall into the WTA 1000 category, the second highest after grand slams. This year will start on April 28, Linda Fruhvirt will celebrate her 17th birthday on May 1.
