Almost refusal to work in the heavyweight division: Leipzig judoka lose against Rüsselsheim

Leipzig. Weren’t the JCL judokas wide awake at noon? The Bundesliga club from Leipzig wanted to avoid such slip-ups this season so as not to bury their dreams of the final round prematurely. In the first home fight there was a sobering 6:8 defeat against JC Rüsselsheim in front of 400 spectators on Saturday in Brüderstraße, whereby the 2:5 at the break was too heavy a mortgage. Out of consideration for the USC basketball players and the (ultimately canceled) volleyball derby, the JCL had brought its fight forward to 12:30 p.m.

In particular, the 160-kilo Romanian Daniel Natea seemed far too phlegmatic against a 60-kilo lighter Swede (again) instead of switching to attack mode. The second international guest starter – the Hungarian Bendeguz Hegedus – did not ignite this time either. Since Emil Hennebach, who was in the lead, lost his first fight with an arm lock to the dismay of his colleagues, the JCL found itself on the losing road early on.

It didn’t help that U21 vice world champion and European Championship candidate Lennart Slamberger also contributed two points, as did captain Hannes Conrad. “6: 8 is not our desired result,” said Slamberger. “My opponent had their first division debut. I don’t want to overestimate the fast point. It’s bitter that Natea almost refused to work in the heavyweight division.”
