Turkish billionaire Muhsin Bayrak in line to buy Chelsea

Roman Abramovich, the club’s current Russian owner, put it up for sale on Wednesday after 19 years at its helm due to sanctions imposed on Russia after the invasion of Ukraine.

The London club has already been the subject of several expressions of interest, now joined by that of Muhsin Bayrak, a construction, energy and technology magnate.

“We can absolutely confirm our offer for Chelsea,” Seda Bayrak, chief executive of AB Grup Holding, told PA agency “and we have passed it on.”

Investment bank The Raine Group is handling the sale on behalf of Abramovich, who under his presidency has seen Chelsea win 19 major trophies. The process would still be at the stage of submitting offers, which would also include those of American billionaire Todd Boehly, owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, associated with Swiss Hansjoerg Wyss.

Abramovich has decided to sell the club even though he is not on the list of people sanctioned by the British authorities.
