Transfers: What Philippe Coutinho’s future at Aston Villa depends on – SOCCER

Since his winter move from FC Barcelona to Aston Villa on loan, Coutinho (29) has really blossomed and is a top performer Premier-League-Club. In the catch-up game against Leeds United (3-0), the former Bayern star was once again convincing and started the win with his goal to make it 1-0.

Villa coach Steven Gerrard (41) raves about the Brazilian: “He’s in magical shape and people love to watch him. We love working with him. He’s in a perfect place.”

If Gerrard has his way, the Birmingham club can continue to be the perfect place for Coutinho. But that is “more complicated than people think,” says the coach, because the club would have to pay 40 million euros to Barça in the summer for a purchase option.

According to the Birmingham Mail, a commitment depends largely on Coutinho himself. The offensive star would have to be ready for salary cuts. At FC Barcelona he is said to collect around 570,000 euros per week.

Due to the high purchase price – Coutinho would be the most expensive transfer in club history – and the star’s salary expectations, the Villa bosses want to wait until May with a decision, according to the newspaper.

For Gerrard, the matter would be clear: “If it was my money, you know what I would do.”
