The competitive gene of Ander Cubillas

In his head there is only room for one idea, to win. There is no other option, so he faces his life Ander Cubillas (Estella, 2003), Mutilvera player. Pure competitive gene, something that has led him, among other things, to to be champion of Spain. He did it in 2016, becoming the best national badminton player under 13. A milestone only comparable, at least on an emotional level, with the goal he scored on Saturday against Real Sociedad C. The first with the Mutilveraprecisely on the day of his debut.

Ander Cubillas has always traveled hand in hand with sport. Since he was a child he practiced paddle tennis and handball, but in 2014 he discovered a new discipline. “I remember that at that time the name of Caroline Marin. That’s how I discovered badminton and I started to love it. Playing sports, whatever it is, is one of my passions, and that’s why I decided to try it. I was good at it and just two years after starting I was proclaimed champion of Spain”, affirms a Cubillas who decided to step aside a few months ago. “I love playing badminton, I enjoy it a lot, but there came a time when I had to decide. I made too many trips and my true dream was to play sports with my friends. It was also added that just this year I have come to Pamplona to study Industrial Engineering, so the time I have is much less. I decided to give up badminton and bet on football.”

ARRIVE AND KISS THE SAINT

After passing through Arenas and Izarra, Cubillas left Estella to continue training as a footballer. Signed for the Division of Honor of the Mutilvera and on Saturday he had the prize of debuting with the first team. “I trained all week with them. Normally I do it with the youth team, but they brought me up because of the losses, I entered the squad and I was lucky enough to play a few minutes, ”he acknowledges. He jumped onto the pitch in the 80th minute, with his team falling 0-1 against Real Sociedad C. Three minutes were enough for him to make his debut as a scorer. “Before entering he was a little nervous, it’s normal, but with confidence and the desire to do well. I went out and in the first one I had I headed the squad, but the Real goalkeeper sent the ball to a corner. I was very angry, but it passed quickly. Right on that corner kick I volleyed and scored the goal”.

He still does not remember what he did in the celebration of the goal. It is something that usually happens. He attributes it to being a “very passionate” person. “At that time I am not aware. I live things a lot, both the good and the bad. The joy after the goal was immense, like when you win a national championship, but the opposite happens to me when I lose. It’s something I can’t stand. I have it very bad, but little by little I am improving it. It is also true that this competitive character that I have has helped me to grow as an athlete”.
