BBVA Valencia International Open It will be within the professional women’s tennis circuit after raising its prize category to $ 125,000, as reported this Tuesday from the organization.

The event, whose director is the former tennis player and current captain of the Billie Jean King Cup, Anabel Medinaand the company Tennium as organizer, will be held this year from June 4 to 12 at the Sporting Club de Tenis facilities and becomes the first WTA tournament in the history of the Valencian Community and the only one held on Spanish soil together with the Mutua Madrid Open.

Both Medina and the sports company, which organizes other events such as the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell-Conde de Godó“they have negotiated for months to be able to make a leap in quality to a contest that was already a benchmark in the country,” they indicated from the organization.

This new synergy, together with the support as the main sponsor of BBVA, certifies the intention already presented in the 2021 edition of becoming a tournament WTA and to be able to bring together some of the best players on the international circuit in the Turia capital.

Despite this, the BBVA Open International Valencia will continue with its promotion of tennis with the dispute of the U-16 tournament in order to give visibility and offer opportunities to emerging players, as well as solidarity initiatives towards athletes with disabilities.
