Sports TV at Apple starting next week

Apple’s video service TV+ has tail wind: After winning the first “Oscars” for a streaming service this week, another important development step is on April 8th: The iPhone manufacturer has managed to secure important rights for sports broadcasts. This is the popular “Friday Night Baseball” of the American league MLB.

After a labor dispute between the players’ association and Major League Baseball was averted, the first live sports broadcast on Apple TV + is scheduled to start on the Friday after next. Two games will be broadcast: First, the “New York Mets” will play the “Washington Nationals” at 7 p.m. EST, followed by the “Los Angeles Angels” against the “Houston Astros” at 9:30 p.m. Furthermore, an accompanying program with information on other games and reviews has been announced.

Thankfully, Apple doesn’t charge any additional fees for “Friday Night Baseball” – the live sport is part of the normal TV+ package, which costs a modest $5 a month. Unfortunately, the games won’t initially be available in all countries, where Apple TV+ can be used. The service is only available in eight countries, at least initially: the United States, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.

When announcing the service, Apple said it would expand the availability to other regions “at a later date”. The games can also be viewed repeatedly after the live broadcast, Apple wants to spread analysis and news formats, highlights and classic games. Additional MLB original content is also planned.

The lots that Apple will transfer can can be found on the company’s website – the schedules are currently available until June. How Apple implements its country restrictions remains to be seen. In addition to the origin of the Apple ID, the company could also geolocate the IP address to prevent “fake showers”.
