Russia and Belarus fired from world biathlon. They damage the reputation of the sport, says the IBU

According to the IBU press release, the decision is coming into force today. The national teams of both countries were banned from starting until the end of last season after the start of the war.

“Both federations (Russia and Belarus) have violated humanitarian obligations to member states under IBU rules. The Russian and Belarusian unions are damaging the reputation of biathlon and their active membership would undermine the IBU’s efforts, “the statement said.

“In addition, the invasion of Ukraine stopped sport and all activities of the Ukrainian Union, so it would not be fair for federations from aggressor countries to enjoy all the privileges of membership in the IBU,” he said.

The decision to eliminate both countries will be revised again at the September congress.
