Nyara Sabally is entering the 2022 WNBA Draft

Two years after Satou Sabally, her younger sister Nyara Sabally is about to move to the WNBA. The 22-year-old has registered for the draft.

From the coming season, another German basketball player is likely to appear in the WNBA: Nyara Sabally has registered for the draft of the North American women’s professional league. In ESPN’s current mock draft the younger sister of Satou Sabally is listed in fourth position.

“I’ve decided to pursue my lifelong dream of playing in the WNBA and signed up to be drafted,” Sabally wrote in an acknowledgment to the University of Oregon.

Sabally played for the Oregon Ducks in the NCAA for the past two seasons, but the center missed the first two seasons due to two cruciate ligament tears. With 15.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks, Sabally showed just how talented and versatile she is last season. However, there was no collective success: In the NCAA tournament, Oregon, as the fifth-seeded team, was eliminated in the first round, in the Pac-12 tournament it was over in the semifinals.

The 2022 WNBA Draft will be held on April 11th. Satou Sabally was drafted second overall by the Dallas Wings in the 2020 draft. No German player has been selected so highly in the WNBA or NBA so far.
