NFL: Chiefs affix franchise player tag to Orlando Brown Jr.

Kansas City Chiefs have given franchise player tag to offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr., reports ESPN Monday.

Brown becomes the first free agent to earn the franchise tag. Teams have until 4 p.m. Tuesday to take advantage of such an option.

Brown joined the Chiefs last year after being signed from the Baltimore Ravens. He started all 16 games he played during the regular season and 3 more in the playoffs.

Brown, whose father Orlando was a longtime National Football League player, was a 2018 Ravens 3rd round pick. In 3 seasons, he started 52 games, most of them as a right tackle.

Brown wanted to play left tackle, but the Ravens were already relying on Ronnie Stanley, which led him to ask for a trade.

The Chiefs acquired his services shortly before the draft in return for four picks, including the 2021 first-rounder.
