Major League Baseball postpones start of season due to conflict with players

Miami, United States | The start of the 2022 Major League Baseball season was delayed Tuesday after the competition failed to reach an agreement with the Players Association on a new collective bargaining agreement, commissioner Rob Manfred said.

“We’re not going to be able to play the first two series of the regular season and they’re officially canceled,” Manfred said at a news conference at the end of the ninth day of negotiations in Jupiter, Florida.

The Major Leagues had warned that this Tuesday was the deadline to successfully conclude the negotiations and that, otherwise, it could delay the start of the regular phase, scheduled for March 31.
