LOK Executive Committee expresses support for active action of the Board in connection with the situation in Ukraine – Other sports – Sportacentrs.com

The Executive Committee of the LOC supported the proposal of the Board on the coordination of the necessary support and assistance to Ukrainian refugees in cooperation with local governments, Olympic centers, as well as LOC partners – the Children’s Hospital Foundation and “Ziedot.lv”. An additional specialist will be temporarily involved in this work. The LOC is also in discussions with its partners and the European Olympic Committees (EOCs) on possible additional funding for this area of ​​work.

Edgars Severs, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia, Director of the Sports Department, informed the LOK Executive Committee about the position of the Ministry of Education and Science and the planned activities related to the situation in Ukraine.

The LOK board informed that, taking into account the decision initiated by the LOK and the decision of the EOC to exclude Russia and Belarus from participating in the European Youth Winter Olympic Games from March 20 to 25 this year, the Latvian team has the opportunity to go to them. At this winter festival, our country will be represented by 18 young athletes in five sports – downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, biathlon, figure skating and short track.

The LOK Executive Committee heard a report prepared by Liene Cakare, a representative of the audit company Ernst & Young Baltic (E&Y), on the risk and benefit analysis of the LOC in connection with the possible consolidation of sports NGOs, as well as information on the implementation of the Latvian National Audit Office’s recommendations. The LOK Board was instructed to present the report to the Ministers of Education and Science and to organize a working meeting for the Olympic Sports Federations with the participation of company representatives, inviting the auditors of the State Audit Office.
