Judo veterans start training program

THE NEW DAILY, SANTO DOMINGO. With the aim of taking part in future international tournaments, the Judo Veterans Commission began the preparation program on Sunday at the National House of that discipline.

William López, who directs the Judo Veterans Commission, said that the training will be carried out according to age and according to the time that some have without going up to the tatami.

“It is important that we are an example for children and young people who currently practice judo. This is the first meeting after the coronavirus pandemic distanced us,” López said.

The sports leader highlighted the presence of veteran judokas from all over the national territory, while inviting them to be an example and contribute to the development of judo.

“This is an ambitious project, to institutionalize a tournament for judo veterans, which also allows us to socialize,” López continued.

For the Judo Federation, Professor Luisa Martínez, general secretary of the organization, highlighted the integration of veteran judokas and urged them to continue contributing to this sport.

The training program was in charge of the sensei and immortal of Sport, Juan Chalas, who pointed out that the objective of the call is to maintain the competitive spirit and put into practice the knowledge acquired.

“We are very motivated and we are going to continue adding judo athletes who have not been on a tatami for a long time,” explained Chalas.

After the words of motivation during the brief ceremony, the large group of veteran judokas did warm-up routines, according to age, as well as the execution of the various judo techniques.

The Judo Veterans Commission was created by the Dominican Judo Federation, chaired by Mr. Gilberto García, with the express interest of unifying the already retired judokas, and that the youngest can represent the country in future international events.
