Guillaume Toucoullet vice-world champion

Guillaume Toucoullet won a silver medal in Dubai, during the disabled world archery championships.

Thirteen years. Thirteen long years that the French men’s team was waiting for this. On Sunday, Guillaume Toucoullet stood on the podium of the disabled world championships in Dubai. The French won a world medal, the first for the tricolor clan since Fabrice Meunier in 2009. For the Basque archer, it is with money around his neck that he leaves the United Arab Emirates.

A first for 13 years for the Blues

For Guillaume Toucoullet, these Worlds represented an important deadline, five months after the Tokyo Paralympic Games and two years from the Paris 2024 Games. The Basque was one of the five French archers involved in these Worlds. In recurve, the Habs made their way to the final, ensuring they got a medal. It remained to know what metal.

A lost final at the barrage arrow

A final in which Guillaume Toucoullet was opposed to the Japanese Tomohiro Ueyam. After the first two ends won 29-27 by his opponent, the Frenchman trailed 4-0. The third round sees the Basque back in the match: 27-27. He even manages to take over and pocket the next two innings. Everything is therefore played on the shoot-off arrow, finally won by the Japanese.

Paris 2024 objective

A silver medal which still tastes like victory for Guillaume Toucoullet. Last summer, the Frenchman stopped in the round of 16 at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. A disappointment that the tricolor archer has managed to overcome, he who has fully remobilized for these 2022 Worlds. From now on, the Frenchman will have to continue to surf on this dynamic to qualify for the next Paralympic Games. At almost 40 years old, Guillaume Toucoullet will then be able to dream of a coronation at home.
