FOOTBALL The stomp on Mbappé and all the others

Gueye stepped on Mbappé in training and although I don’t think that prevents him from playing at the Bernabéu, it is possible that he will be diminished. It was a severe and firm stomp, one of those that we are seeing with increasing frequency. I comment on it with former players and they agree: a lot is being stepped on, more and more is being stepped on, given the lazy tolerance of the referees, who rarely admonish. He is stepping on so much that, apparently, Gueye has incorporated him into his training routine and he doesn’t even care that the one who crosses him is Mbappé two days before the match of the season. The PSG fans put their hands on their heads.

There is matter for the referees, the same when they act as such or from the cockpit of the chicken sexer. So fine to discover hands where the rival does not even claim, they let this pass as a minor thing. Why is this happening? Why don’t they order them to chase him. A few years ago, the terror of strikers was ‘tackling’ from behind (that shortened the careers of Van Basten and Kiko, among others). The referees did not react until the slogan of pursuing this type of tickets with expulsions was extended. Then came the elbows, with frequent fractures of the nose or cheekbone, and the same thing happened: sthey only ended when there was a new slogan.

Bullies are always looking for something to say: “If you come this way you know what to expect”. Now it is the stomp and it will continue to be until the arbitration reacts. It is a harmful move and more often than not voluntary: a footballer knows well where he puts his feet. In some cases they point a little higher than the instep, at the base of the tibia, where injuries can be more serious. But the referees also go by fashions and now, you can see, they are the invisible hands. They are naturally a disciplined group, very attentive to the instructions of their superiors and less and less owners of the free use of their instinct. Until there is no slogan, this will continue.
