Football: Müller-Malheur costs Bayern victory

In the 36th minute, Müller scored an own goal for the first time in his career and thus robbed Bayern of victory. After 25 rounds, Munich are now nine points ahead of Borussia Dortmund. The BVB game in Mainz scheduled for Sunday had been postponed due to numerous coronavirus cases in Mainz and is scheduled to be added on March 16th.

In a direct duel between the table neighbors, RB Leipzig and SC Freiburg drew 1-1 (0-1) on Saturday. Leipzig remains fourth ahead of Freiburg with the same number of points. VfL Wolfsburg prevailed 1-0 (1-0) at home against Union Berlin when Xaver Schlager made his comeback in the starting XI. VfL Bochum 1848 came a step closer to remaining in the league with a 2-1 (1-0) win against bottom-placed SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

Müller involuntarily in focus

In Munich, Müller was involuntarily the focus of his comeback after his second infection with the corona virus. With an unsuccessful defensive action in his own penalty area, Müller steered a Leverkusen free kick from Kerem Demirbay into his own goal in the 36th minute. There was no Leverkusner player around far and wide. For Müller it was the first own goal in the 407th Bundesliga game.

Marcel Sabitzer, ex-Salzburg player, had the best chance of bringing Bayern, who had taken the lead in the 18th minute through Niklas Süle, a win. Shortly after his substitution in the 61st minute, the ÖFB team player – freed by Jamal Musiala – appeared alone in front of the Leverkusen goal, but was denied by goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky (62nd). Sabitzer is still in the Bayern jersey without being involved in a goal. At Bayer Leverkusen, Julian Baumgartlinger was only on the substitutes’ bench.

Frankfurt liberation

In Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, Eintracht Frankfurt not only managed a liberation, but coach Glasner’s team also exacerbated the crisis at Hertha. Ansgar Knauff gave the guests the lead in the 17th minute in front of 25,000 spectators in the German capital. Tuta (48′) and Jesper Lindström (56′, 63′) scored the other Frankfurt goals. Davie Selke only made it 1:3 for a short time (61st). Martin Hinteregger played through for Frankfurt, Stefan Ilsanker followed the goal festival from the bench.

With his early goal, Knauff loosened the button at Frankfurt

While the Frankfurters managed a successful dress rehearsal for the round of 16 first leg in the Europa League on Wednesday at Betis Sevilla after three defeats in a row, the Berliners left the field as losers for the fourth time en suite. Hertha, in 16th place, only stayed two points behind the non-relegation places thanks to Arminia Bielefeld’s 1-0 defeat at home to Augsburg on Friday.

Schlager makes a comeback with a win

In the initially enormously static duel between the table neighbors Leipzig and Freiburg, Ermedin Demirovic (38th) scored for the guests after “assistance” by Leipzig’s Amadou Haidara, who wanted to clarify. The lead lasted for a long time, Leipzig without Konrad Laimer played far away from furios, but Angeliño (90th) made sure the equalizer was deserved in the last minute of regular time.

Wolfsburg’s 1-0 win over Union Berlin was just as hard-fought as Bochum’s 2-1 home win over bottom Greuther Fürth. In Wolfsburg, Union top scorer Taiwo Awoniyi hit an early header, but after a corner into his own goal (24th). ÖFB team player Xaver Schlager was back in Wolfsburg’s starting XI for the first time since August after recovering from a cruciate ligament rupture and was in the game until the 64th minute. At Berlin, Christopher Trimmel remained on the bench.
