Music, laughter, costumes, darkness and fluorescent lights: a funny atmosphere invaded the Jean-Zay high school gymnasium on Saturday evening. It was not an ephemeral discotheque, but an unprecedented sporting event: “blackminton”, that is to say badminton in the dark.
It was the Thiers Sport Santé association which organized it for the first time in Thiers, and more particularly Jean-Luc Sauzedde, the leader of the badminton group. Forty-eight people are usually registered in this group to participate in training on Tuesday and Friday evenings.

It took nearly 300 meters of fluorescent ribbons, to materialize three fields, and the rental of special lighting, to be able to play in the dark. Thus, only the light elements – clothes, net, steering wheel – shine in the dark. So it’s a whole different way to play badminton.
