Direction quarters for Asvel and Bourges

In the quarter-final return of the women’s basketball Eurocup this Wednesday, Asvel and Bourges validated their presence in the last four of the competition.

Tricolor basketball had two teams engaged in the round of 16 of the Eurocup for women’s basketball on Wednesday. Asvel received at the Mado Bonnet gymnasium, Lubnin. Following the encouraging draw won in the first leg on February 23 in Poland (66-66), the reigning French champions did not waver when delivering the coup de grace to their opponent. Despite a false start punctuated by an 18-19 at the end of the first quarter, the Lionesses took over afterwards, stifling the Poles. Following the scathing 30-16 in the second quarter, the French even increased the pace even more, inflicting a very severe 19-3 during the following period. In the end, there is no photo as to the gap between the two teams (78-54). This logical success opens the way to the quarter-finals for Asvel and its two stars of the day, the Serbian Aleksandra Crvendakic and the French international, Marine Johannes, both of Lyon’s top scorers with 15 points.

A joy shared by Bourges. The Cher club even suffered much less against Olympiakos. Confident after the victory of the first leg in Athens (60-73), Tango Bourges Basket never panicked, even leading to the score up to five points apart, never more. On the other hand, the advantage gained at half-time of 37-27 was then never abandoned. Relying on a fiery Laetitia Guapo with 20 points to her credit, Olivier Lafargue’s players reach the quarterfinals (76-59). The only French club crowned in the Eurocup for women’s basketball, Bourges would dream of succeeding Valence and putting its name on the list of winners of this European Cup for a second time. The reigning champions will also be at the quarter-finals, as will Basket-Landes, the third tricolor formation present at this advanced stage of the competition. The last qualified, the Turkish club CBK Mersin pocketed their winning ticket at the expense of the Ukrainians of Prometey this Wednesday (95-66).
