BBL: Nick Weiler-Babb’s fall overshadows Towers bankruptcy

The basketball game, it was incidental to the 75:86 of the Hamburg Towers at Bayern Munich. The game was overshadowed by a serious fall by Munich’s Nick Weiler-Babb.

Almost two minutes had been played in the second quarter when the 26-year-old American started to dunk. But Weiler-Babb got stuck on the basket and therefore hit the ground unhappily. The guard then lay motionless on the floor of the Audi Dome for minutes, where he was treated by paramedics.

There was silence in the arena until the man from Munich was taken away and applauded by the fans. Luckily, Bayern’s sporting director Daniele Baiesi gave the all-clear at half-time: Weiler-Babb was on his way to the hospital, conscious again and able to move.

Logically, the Bayern players were deeply shocked after the fall. By the break, the towers were able to gain an 18-point lead. At this point, Caleb Homesley already had 25 points in his account. The Towers star hardly had a head for the sporty at halftime. “We at Hamburg Towers want to make sure he’s okay,” Homesley said of Weiler-Babb on MagentaSport.

The Munich leaders then came out of the dressing room as if changed, while the offensive engine of the Towers sputtered violently. In fact, Bayern managed the monster comeback in the second half, which the hosts won 58:29.
